Wild Cards Simone Elkeles Books

Oh this book. I thought this book was going to be a football romance, but it turned out to be one heck of a dram romance. I thought Derek was going to join the football team that Ashtyn so happens to be in, and they were going to fight or something for the quarterback position, but noooooooo it had to be something completely different and I didn't like it as much as her Perfect Chemistry series. I hope the sequel does better...

So basically, this story is in 2 POVs.

The first one is a bad boy who was kicked out of his boarding school, Derek. Who had no choice but to live with his ditzy stepmother (Ashtyns sister) while his military dad is deployed (who barely pays attention to him). Then he finds out that his stepmother plans to move them back to her childhood home in Illinois (which is where Ashtyn comes in!). Derek’s counting the days before he can be on his own, and the last thing he needs is to get involved with someone else’s family drama, yay drama.

Second POV is Ashtyn who is a tomboy (yes! Me!), dresses up and hangs out with guys for a living, and happens to love football and the only girl on the team. All she's ever wanted is a football scholarship so she can leave the boring neighborhood. So she ends up becoming the quarterback over her boyfriend (who is the biggest a**hole in the planet) pours everything into winning a state championship, and on top of that has to deal with all of the pranks and the pressure. So now she needs a new game plan since her EX boyfriend left the team for their rivals since he was jealous of not becoming the quarterback (like I said A**HOLE!!!, and it requires trusting Derek, who she barely knows, and is someone born to break the rules.

Like I said, DRAMA. This is drama, not a football romance. And stick to the Perfect Chemistry series unless the sequel to this book turns out waaaaaaay better, because I was seriously disappointed.

Wild Cards Simone Elkeles Books Reviews

Good book not as good as perfect chemistry seres but still good book I would recommend to anyone who loves perfect chemistry
I hate read books specially when its romance but when I started to read this book I thought to myself not all Romance books are bad and when I got deeper in 2 the book I fell in love with the book now I Can't put it down
AWESOME BOOK!
I loved the Paradise books and Perfect Chemistry. Rules of Attraction, Chain Reaction, and then Wild Cards are the same books only progressively worse.

Reasons why

1. Our main girl is so mean!
2. The characters hate each other...how did they possibly end up together?
3. Our guy calls the girl Sugar Pie...yeah really
4. So so so unrealistic....Guy moves to new location like 8 zillion times, and is a football prodigy after not playing for years
5. Ending was just thrown together in 3 pages. I literally said, "wow this ending is so stupid."

If you liked the rest of her books like I did, I recommend doing the library for this one. You're not going to want it.
I truly enjoyed the dynamic between Ashtyn and Derek. As always, the tone the author sets seems to be right on point with the youthful voice. It's just something about her books that suck you in. After reading the advanced copy, I can honestly say I don't regret pre-ordering this book back in June.

The story starts off very quickly, but not so quickly that you get lost. The two meet within the first couple of chapters and sparks immediately start to fly. As with every teenaged boy, Derek has his jerk moments, but they're not enough to make him off putting. I however cannot say the same about Ashtyn's boyfriend Landon. He, on the other hand, I hated on first sight.

The premise of the girl football player reminded me of Catching Jordan, but the only thing these two books had in common was a girl football player. Since this book takes place over the summer, Ashtyn's interaction with her teammates was all off the field. There was very little actual football playing.

Ashtyn family was a whole other story in and of itself. I never really ever understood what her dad's problem was. Yes, the author addresses it, but I still found her dad lacking. Her sister's story I don't recall being explained at all, but she wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. The other secondary characters weren't all that interesting either beyond Derek's grandmother and his little brother Julian.

All in all I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the next book in this series, and I'm hoping it's just as great.
